Event Details

Buddhism has had a long history, spanning over several centuries, of intense probing into the true nature of reality both at the physical and non-physical level. In this objective and the methodological rigor with which it investigates such phenomena it shares a lot with modern science. Since the beginning of the 21st century there has been a rapidly growing interest among scientists to conduct research into Buddhist theories and practices especially those related to the mind and its development. The Buddhists, who likewise have shown a great interest in learning from modern scientific discoveries, reciprocate this interest. As a result there is a constant dialogue between scientists and Buddhists these days through different forums. This teaching by Venerable Geshe Nyima Tashi will explore some of the findings of such dialogues between Science and Buddhism.

Venerable Geshe Nyima Tashi is a Buddhist monk from the Sera Jey Monastic University in South India. He is a distinguished faculty member of the University, who currently heads the ‘Science Meets Dharma’ program at the University. Through this program the University provides a platform for Buddhist monks and Scientists to engage in a regular dialogue to exchange ideas on various theories and methods of inquiry. Venerable Geshe Nyima Tashi completed his Geshe Lharampa studies (equivalent of an advanced doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy) from Sera Jey University. He has served as the head of ‘Philosophical & Dialectical Studies Department’ of the University in the past.
